Dreaming to Infinity

Topics/Categories: Astral Projection, Lucid Dreaming, Out of Body Experiences, Dreaming resources

Something that touched me: I'll admit--when Ben from Dreaming Life called me out on one of his posts to write about how I got started on Lucid Dreaming, I had to reach waaaay back to the days when quality dreams went with quality sleep and a quality read of Carlos Castaneda. Now, my dream journals are packed away in the shed along with my poetry, my college papers and my Mac SE. My quality sleep dissipates at 3 am in the morning when my son crawls into bed with me. (I might be whining just a bit, but don't take it seriously. Does anyone know of a post along the lines of "Lucid dreaming vs. Parenthood"?) Interestingly enough, all of this information about lucid dreaming brought up a very real road block for me--"I can't do it because..." At one point in my life, my dreams were so vivid and potent that I wrote lengthy journals about them. Full science-fiction stories unfolded at my behest, and flying was an art. Now, I'm lucky if I remember the subject of my dreams...guiltily, I hang my head. And so, I start anew with this very excellent post and it's sequels entitled "An Intro to Dreaming."

Review: The author of this exceptional blog is the Mad Hatter...and no, I don't think that his altered states are caused by mercury poisoning. I do, however, think that this very interesting fellow has made an educated study of his own experiences, the materials available and his readings for an amazingly informative blog on lucid dreaming. You will find here an A-Z guide, reasons why you should start, myth-busters (alas, poor Carlos Castaneda, I knew him well), dream aids and personal experiences. What is interesting though, is the theme here is not always focused on the genre of dreaming, but in helping people develop more fully in their daily lives by using lucid dreaming as a tool to accomplish subconscious intervention. Hatter says: This blog is meant to help other people on the journey of transcending the trials and tribulations of daily life. Many thanks, Mad Hatter, for showing me a part of myself that I've been blocked in...I look forward to exploring your tools!

Hi Darcy,

It's tough to balance parenting with lucid dreaming practice, but one method is to talk about dreams with your son and ask him to describe his dreams each morning. If you make it a daily practice, you'll benefit from it but so will he. Don't we all wish our parents had gotten us into the habit of remembering our dreams at a very young age? :-)

Kris, you are right about the balance. But you've given me an idea of journaling not only my dreams, but also my son's dreams. What could be a more precious and accurate "diary" of a child's psychological development. Your thoughts?

I love that idea! It will provide you with inspiration for your own dream practice but also provide you with a deeper insight into your son. And think of what an amazing gift it will be to him when he's older and can look back on all those early dreams.
